Cervantes-Soon

Arizona State University

Claudia Cervantes-Soon, Ph.D., is an award-winning Associate Professor at Arizona State University and a former K-12 educator. With over 50 publications centering bilingual and borderlands communities and critical perspectives on dual language education, her scholarship has been recognized by the National Academy of Education, the American Educational Research Association, and the Spencer Foundation among others. Her recent research explores how Arizona's bilingual educators advocate for immigrant and racialized students in hostile contexts, finding sustenance, healing, and resilience.

Dr. Tracey Flores

University of Texas at Austin

Dr. Tracey T. Flores is an associate professor of language and literacy at the University of Texas at Austin. A former ELD and ELA teacher in Arizona, she spent eight years working with culturally and linguistically diverse students and their families. Her research focuses on Latina mothers’ and daughters’ literacy practices, the teaching of young writers in diverse classrooms, and family and community literacies. She is the founder of Somos Escritoras, a creative space for Latina girls (grades 6-12) that invites them to unearth their stories, document their histories, and amplify their voices though storytelling, writing, and art.
